A British Airways flight due to leave Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport on Saturday morning has been evacuated and held on the tarmac for a security reason, according to airport officials.

'The pilot then said there had been a direct security threat involving our flight specifically'.

BA303, an Airbus 320, was due to take off Sunday from Charles de Gaulle Airport at 7:25 a.m. (1:25 a.m. ET) for London's Heathrow airport when passengers were deplaned.

He continued: 'I believe the intention is to return to the same plane assuming the search is all clear. "They're being extremely thorough and we're being escorted by armed officers". The passengers were picked up by airport staff before re-boarding.

British Airways while regretted for the inconvenience faced by the passengers, they emphasised that security of the passengers is their top priority.

The security alert comes amid heightened tensions in the United Kingdom in the wake of the failed bomb plot on a District Line train at Parsons Green on Friday. "Additional security checks are being carried out as a precaution", British Airways said in a statement when asked about the flight.

"We would never operate a flight unless it is safe to do so".

An 18-year-old man was arrested in Dover on Saturday in connection with the attack.
