Hurricane Irma cuts power to more than 7 million homes and businesses

In Florida, more than 5 million customers were still without power Tuesday.

Georgia reported more than 570,000 homes and businesses without electricity, and there were 80,000 in SC.

Utility officials are warning residents that it could take weeks to get the lights back on in parts of the Southeast.

Hurricane Irma continues to impact service to Georgia Power customers across the state.

An estimated 20 percent of Florida's gas stations had no fuel on Thursday, down from a peak of 46 percent, according to fuel information service Gas Buddy.

"A lot of these guys have been down there before", Meyers said.

Crews are trying to restore lines that affect the most customers first, but can't yet get to some areas.

About 90 percent of homes in Sarasota-Manatee should have electricity by Monday, according to the utility. Georgia EMC said it had close to 300,000 customers without power.

Standing in front of a produce cooler at a reopened Publix grocery store in Naples, Missy Sieber said the worst thing about not having electricity is not having air conditioning.

"The level of total miscommunication is unbelievable", said Roberta Adamovich, an Ocean Ridge resident without power who reported a downed power pole near her house. I wasn't there. I hope the truth comes out.
