Bengaluru: White tigers kill caretaker in Bannerghatta National Park

A source in the park said that there was no CCTV camera at the spot where Anji was mauled to death by two white tigers on Saturday evening.

The animal keeper, 40, was attempting to direct the tigers into their enclosure at the Bannerghatta Biological Park in southern India on Saturday night, the BBC reports.

Though he tried to escape, the cubs of white tigress Sowbhagya, chased and allegedly mauled him to death, they said.

Another cub then joined in the attack.

The tigers were eventually driven off by park staff but the victim was already dead.

Anji, 41, was recruited by the Park about a week ago. "We are not authorised to give him a permanent government", Kumar said.

The 1,346-acre Bannerghatta National Park houses 1,941 animals including Bengal tigers, lions and leopards, according to its website.

Anji was reportedly married with two children.

His angry relatives protested outside the park on Sunday - they want financial compensation from park management, accusing them of negligence.
