What is believed to be human remains have been found near a crocodile-infested creek in far north Queensland as police search for a missing elderly woman.
Anne Cameron, 79, disappeared from a Port Douglas nursing home on Tuesday, with police unable to rule out the possibility she had been attacked by a crocodile after wandering down to a nearby river.
"It is my deep regret to inform you that following an extensive search and the discovery of certain items as a result of that search, we have the firm belief that my nan Anne Cameron has passed away in tragic circumstances", Anne's granddaughter Isabella Eggins wrote.
"We've also located some biological matter which we believe to be human remains, but those items are now being tested in Cairns", acting inspector Ed Lukin said, according to ABC.

Students were dismissed, but those who ride the bus were required to have a parent at home when the bus arrived. The prison houses almost 900 adult, male felons in both high-security and minimum-custody buildings.
Clothes and a walking stick bearing the name of Ms Cameron, who suffers from dementia, were found next to a creek.
"There will be forensic tests done on those remains, but I will stress that there are no other missing persons in the Port Douglas area".
A woman, 68, was found walking along a road north of Wyndham in the WA Kimberley region, missing half an arm after a croc attack at Three Mile Creek.
Acting Inspector Lukin said this was not the first time Ms Cameron had become disorientated while out walking and SES volunteers would continue searching the area to keep "every available option" open.

Ozcare, the company that runs the aged care facility, declined to comment.
Cameron is believed to have removed her clothing before going into the creek, authorities said.
She had only recently moved to the aged care facility after relocating from Canberra and family were involved in the search since her disappearance on Tuesday afternoon. She was last seen in Craiglie, near Port Douglas and is described as slim, 165cm tall with short grey hair.
