Five Hollywood Studios On Board For Movies Anywhere Service

The new Movies Anywhere is a Disney-owned entity that will operate with input from an advisory committee made up of members from each of the participating studios.

Comcast Corp's Universal Pictures, Time Warner Inc's Warner Bros, Twenty-First Century Fox Inc's 20th Century Fox and Sony Corp's Sony Pictures Entertainment have signed on to the effort, the statement said. With a free Movies Anywhere account, films you purchase via Google Play Movies, Amazon, iTunes, or Vudu will all appear in a combined library - and you won't have to repurchase them to get access.

Disney's (NYSE:DIS) Movies Anywhere has just launched, a digital movie locker and app launched with backing from five of the six major Hollywood studios, as expected. "Movies Anywhere syncs users' libraries across their connected accounts, so consumers can watch their purchased and redeemed digital movies on an array of platforms including Amazon Fire devices; Android devices and Android TV; Apple TV; Chromecast; iPhone, iPad and iPod touch; Roku® devices and popular browsers, with more platforms and retailers to come". Better still, anybody who links two or more accounts through Movies Anywhere will receive five movies for free. Disney didn't share exactly why the company pulled support for Microsoft Movies & TV.

Movies Anywhere will allow consumers to buy movies and then store them in a "digital locker" which they can access from supported devices.

Movies Anywhere will roll out first in the U.S. but will presumably make it to further nations in future. It is similar to Ultraviolet, but will allegedly work more seamlessly and has the capacity of bringing together more studios and online retailers.
