In her application, the Thiruvananthapuram-native sought an investigation by central agencies like NIA into the religious conversions in the state. It also asked for the family background, any criminal background of Shafin Jahan and if at all, the case had any links to trafficking Hadiya outside the country.
Disapproving the marriage, girl's father Ashokan, an ex-serviceman, approached the Kerala high court claiming his daughter was indoctrinated and forcibly converted.
In an affidavit, the Pinarayi Vijayan administration today told the court that Kerala Police's crime branch had conducted a "efficient and sincere" investigation.
The state police were competent enough to conduct such a probe and during its investigation no offences were found that require a probe under the NIA Act of 2008, it said.

The case quite for some time is making headlines as the court is trying to find out whether the 25-year-old Hindu girl Akhila (now Hadiya), converted to Islam and married Muslim youth Shafin Jahan, was trapped by a "well-oiled racket that uses psychological measures to indoctrinate people and persuade them to join terrorist organisations such as ISIS".
The state government said that though it has complied with the court's direction to transfer the case to the NIA, the police has so far not found commission of any "scheduled offences" which statutorily warrant transfer of the case to the central agency.
