Missing Pak journalist pursuing case of Indian engineer recovered after two years

Pakistani female journalist Zeenat Shahzadi, who went missing from Lahore on August 2015 while tracking an Indian prisoner accused of spying on Pakistan, has been found by the Pakistani security forces. Zeenat was rescued on 18 October near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, according to officials.

The report has quoted retired Justice Javed Iqbal, head of the missing persons commission, confirmed Shahzadi's return while speaking to BBC Urdu.

"Non-state actors and anti-state agencies had abducted her and she has been rescued from their custody", Iqbal said, adding that tribals from Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces have played a key role in her recovery.

Shahzadi's family has yet to issue a statement. On the day of her disappearance, Shahzadi was blocked on the road by two cars, and abducted by armed men. "I am thrilled that she is home safe", rights activist Beena Sarwar said.

Hamid Ansari, a 27-year-old engineer and management graduate from Mumbai, went missing in Pakistan in 2013.

Shahzadi's brother Saddam Hussain was miserable after her kidnapping due to which he committed suicide in March previous year bringing her case back to headlines.

"My sister has not committed any crime in helping an Indian national", he said.

Ansari, meanwhile, had gone missing in Pakistan in November, 2012.

Soon after this, Zeenat had started receiving threat calls from unknown persons who told her not to pursue Ansari's case. Fauzia was happy to hear the news of Zeenat being rescued, she said,"I was asked earlier that between Zeenat and my son whom I would want to be released first and I had said Zeenat. When she spoke to Ansari's mother she literally cried along with her and vowed to help".
