After you hit the 5GB cap (or less for some legacy plans), you will continue to get unlimited data; it'll just be very, very slow data. T-Mobile ONE Plus plan holders will see their data speeds slowed to 256Kbps, while T-Mobile ONE subs will have their speeds slowed all the way down to just 128Kbps.

T-Mobile is taking back one of its perks for travelers: large amounts of LTE data when roaming in Canada and Mexico. While 5GB is a healthy amount for a short trip, it's still going to change your behavior - you may end up using hotel WiFi when you can instead of relying exclusively on cellular data.

Beginning July 15th, calls to, from and between the U.S., Mexico & Canada - whether mobile or landline - are included in our latest plans at no extra charge.

The mobile carrier said that it wants to improve and make a decision to "prevent usage beyond the intent of the product". For example, if you use 2GB of LTE data in Mexico or Canada during March, you'll have 3GB remaining. Starting November 12, 2017, customers on T-Mobile ONE, Simple Choice North America, or legacy rate plans with a qualifying feature will receive unlimited talk, text, and data with a maximum of 5GB of 4G LTE.

In case you are in a plan with data stash, which allows you to accumulate data, the data will not be usable in Canada or Mexico anymore.

Note that you can get unlimited LTE in Mexico and Canada by adding One Plus International to your account, but at $25 a month, that option isn't exactly cheap.
