Nehra announces he will retire on November 1

I can play for another couple of years but it isn't easy for a fast bowler at 38-39, especially considering the state of my body. "But he feels, it's the right time to move on", the senior official told PTI on Wednesday.

Nehra will make his final bow on his home ground at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi.

An official in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told news agency Press Trust of India that Nehra informed coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli about his decision.

Plagued by injuries, Nehra's career could not touch the heights it was expected to scale but he played his role in some memorable triumphs for Indian cricket.

The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have said they owe a lot of their skills to Nehra's advice and he is well respected in the dressing-room.

Nehra was recently picked for the three-match T20 global series against Australia but everyone was surprised when he did not figure in the playing XI for the first two matches.

Making his India debut back in 1999 under Mohammed Azharuddin, Nehra has so far played 17 Tests, 120 ODIs and 26 T20 Internationals for the country. One thought that he would like to continue till the home season against Sri Lanka. He has picked 44 Test wickets, besides 157 ODI and 34 T20 scalps.

In his 18 year long career, Nehra has been a part of two International World Cups; 2003 and 2011.

The left-arm speedster, who is now with the Virat Kohli-led Indian side, announced his decision here during the pre-match press conference.
