Oculus Go is Facebook's new standalone headset for $200

Oculus is at its Connect 4 conference in San Jose, California, where it has announced a new VR headset.

With Oculus Go, there is no external device required.

Oculus has teamed up with Pixel Corps to release a dedicated Rift and Gear VR app for streaming the big show as if you were really there. The pricing of the headset promises to perk up the ears of the still-nascent VR headset market, though. Facebook VP of VR Hugo Barra even declares it "hands-down the easiest way for developers" to get in with VR.

Zuckerberg announced the "all-in-one", "accessible" headset today as part of an effort in Facebook and Oculus' goal to put one billion people in VR. So, it has the same wide field of view as the Rift, but with significantly reduced glare. The new standalone mobile headset uses a "fast-switch" WQHD 2560 x 1440 LCD screen and spatial audio. There's also built-in cameras, which use computer vision tech to determine positional tracking. It's introducing a much more refined version of Project Santa Cruz, the stand-alone VR headset it showed off past year. As before, this bundle includes both the Oculus Rift headset and Oculus Touch motion controllers.

However, the Oculus Go headset seems a little different from that headset. In other words, Santa Cruz is a separate, distinct product from Oculus Go.

The Santa Cruz prototype was showcased at last years event, demonstrating Oculus' plans for a wireless high-end headset.
