The story itself ― posted online Thursday with the headline "Solange: "I Miss Out On Chances By Wanting Control Over My Body" ― focuses heavily on the singer's autonomy and the importance she places on her imagery. One of the more personal tracks of Solo's Grammy-winning album, A Seat At The Table, was "Don't Touch My Hair", a song that attempts to tackle the complex and deep relationship black women have with their hair.

Solange Knowles says the hair salon is her "safe haven" and the act of having her hair braided is an "art".

It's a unusual move for the magazine, especially since Solange talks openly about the importance of braiding in the cover story itself. It is an "act of beauty, an act of convenience and an act of tradition" ― it is "its own art form, ' she adds".

Controversy aside, the hair is handsome and at the very least, readers are able to see it in its full glory once they open up the magazine.

Solange is constantly pushing artistic boundaries with her music - and with her hair.

Fans were quick to jump to attention in the comments and express their own disappointment in seeing her hair, well, touched.
