South Korea develops 'blackout bomb' to paralyse Kim Jong-un's nuclear power

The South Korean military is developing a new weapon to fight North Korea's growing nuclear capabilities.

The official at the Center for North Korean Human Rights Records, a body established under the Unification Ministry dealing with inter-Korean affairs, said the center is implementing a pilot project to look into human rights-related issues involving former South Korean soldiers who were captured during the 1950-53 Korean War, South Korean residents abducted to the North and North Korean residents living separated across the border since the three-year conflict. A form of cluster bombs, they split into several canister-like "sub-munitions", which in turn release carbon graphite filaments that short-circuit the electricity supplies.

The first known use of a graphite bomb, or soft bomb, was in 1991 by the USA in Iraq during the Gulf war. "It is in the stage where we can build the bombs anytime", a military official told Yonhap.

Iran warns USA over Revolutionary Guards terror label
The pledge came a week before US President Donald Trump announces his final decision on how he wants to contain Teheran. Qasemi also described as "baseless" claims that Iran is working with North Korea on nuclear weapons development.

According to reports, the weapons have been developed by South Korea's Agency for Defence Development as part of the Kill Chain pre-emptive strike program.

The strategy was originally scheduled to be in place by the mid-2020s.

Tensions in the Korean Peninsula have ratcheted up as the North has carried out a series of missile tests, including one which it said was capable of hitting the U.S. mainland. North Korea also tested a hydrogen bomb in its sixth-and most powerful-nuclear test to date.

ESPN suspends Jemele Hill for anthem tweets
But Hill's tweets caught fire on social media, partly due to the ongoing arguments over ESPN's political posture. The White House, meanwhile, believed her tweet about the President was a "fireable offense ".

South Korea's military has been in a high state of monitoring and readiness alongside the USA military, South Korean media reported.

"We have yet to detect any signs of immediate provocations from North Korea", a South Korean military source said on Monday, quoted in Yonhap, adding: "We are maintaining an upgraded monitoring effort to guard against any developments".

"The US gangster-like moves for domination, subjugation, aggression and war are getting even more reckless and unsafe in the wake of the frenzy of war thirsty (US President Donald) Trump who spat out the remarks of "total destruction of North Korea" without hesitation", a spokesman for the National Peace Committee of North Korea said, as cited by state-run KCNA agency.
