On Wednesday, Major League Soccer released a statement following the U.S. National Team's failure to reach the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Bruce Arena's boys lost their crucial qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago last night and their 2-1 slump saw former United States of America worldwide and now a TV pundit Taylor Twellman lay into the entire soccer system in the country.

Twellman said that it was an utter embarrassment that the USA had failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

However an Omar Gonzalez own goal and a superb strike from Alvin Jones meant that Trinidad claimed all three points.

When soccer holds its world's fair in Russian Federation next June, the American pavilion will be glaringly absent. It's on and I'm going to bring it up right now: The gloves should have been off years ago.

The 37-year-old described it as an "utter embarrassment" that the USA couldn't get a draw from Trinidad and Tobago, and left a warning to the players in the team. "You've seen sort of the growth of US soccer, especially in my lifetime ..."

U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati is also likely on the hot seat, but like Arena, he does not feel major changes are needed.

Elected head of the USSF in 2006 after a quarter-century helping build the national team and federation, Gulati has not said whether he will seek a fourth and final four-year term in February.

When asked about the length and reason for the suspension, McAdoo said "that's all I have for you right now". Apple vented to reporters after the loss to the Chargers about "the whole culture" of the Giants.

Mostly, though, the joke was on the men's soccer team. He said it was not the fault of Jurgen Klinsmann, head coach from 2011 through 2016, or Bruce Arena who took over from him.

Among the possible American candidates are Tab Ramos, coach of the US under-20 team since 2011; Peter Vermes, coach of Sporting Kansas City since 2009; and Huddersfield manager David Wagner. "This will affect the development of the game here in the short term, but I think in the long run the development and popularity of the game will continue to grow and prosper".

"It's hard to see [USMNT] go down like that, but we stand behind them and we're proud of what they're doing, just like the women's team", said UC women's soccer midfielder Katy Couperus. We have some good young players coming up. We have players playing overseas of some quality.
