Polestar 1 hybrid coupe will launch in 2019 and will be sold online by subscription. This week, the company showed the first model that will bear its name: the sporty, 600-hp Polestar 1. Polestar 2 will be the first battery electric vehicle (BEV) from the Volvo Group and will compete against the Tesla model 3. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine kicks in to power the front wheels when the driver needs more mileage or wants to crank things up to full performance. However, as the developers say, the new auto is only half consists of parts of old Volvo models. "If you wish to understand the cost of a Polestar 1, purely for competitor comparative reasons, the indicative target price would be in the region of 130-150,000 euros". "All future cars from Polestar will be electric performance vehicles, but the Polestar 1 bridges today's technology with the future, offering the ideal drivetrain for a grand touring coupe that's likely to be used over longer distances as well as shorter, faster, enjoyable journeys". That model is planned as Polestar's highest-volume vehicle and will go into production later in 2019. The Polestar 2 will be a medium vehicle, while the Polestar 3 will be a large SUV.

Perhaps the most interesting part of Polestar's launch as a standalone brand is that you'll not be able to outright buy one of their models, at least for now, as the company hasn't announced yet any other official purchasing options apart from a subscription service that lasts two or three years, depending on your choice. At its debut, Polestar said the flagship coupe will be available through Volvo's monthly subscription program that includes insurance, maintenance, and concierge services.
