Two rockets land in Israel in apparent spillover from Syrian infighting

An IDF spokesperson was quoted by Israeli media as saying: "Even if we are talking about a trickle of aggression coming from the other side of the border, we want to make clear that continued actions of this sort will be met with an increase of force in Israel's response".

There were no reports of injuries or property damage.

But the Israeli army said it would retaliate against the Syrian forces, regardless of who was responsible for any fire and of whether it was deliberate or unintentional.

The Israeli military struck the Syrian targets in retaliation after five projectiles were launched at Israel from Syria, with three landing in an open area on the Golan Heights. The rockets were fired in quick succession and landed deep in Israel than usual.

"The Israeli enemy assaulted one of our military positions this morning, which led to material damages", it said. It reported no casualties.

The Syrian Foreign Affairs Ministry sent two letters to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday accusing Israel of faking an attack on its own territory following the IDF's aerial attack on Syrian military positions in Quneitra on Saturday morning.

It was the first instance of a Syrian battery firing at an Israeli jet in Lebanese air space since the start of the civil war in 2011. Israel has increasingly been voicing its concern over Iranian involvement in Syria and has issued sharp warnings.
