California NAACP Calls for Removal of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' as National Anthem

Alice Huffman, the president of the NAACP in California and Hawaii, brought up the idea at a recent state convention.

Huffman said she drafted the resolutions after President Trump slammed the NFL national anthem protesters and said that NFL team owners should fire players or coaches who decide to protest the patriotic song.

The NFL kneeling began as a protest against the deaths of black men at the hands of police, not the lyrics of the national anthem, and has since grown to encompass social-justice issues in general. "In order to move forward, we got to look back, but we also got to go, 'OK, where do we want to go from here, and I feel that the discussion is up for debate for sure, a civil debate if we can have that", said Burbank resident Nick Murphy.

"The Star-Spangled Banner" has been the USA national anthem since 1931 after former President Herbert Hoover signed a congressional resolution making it the official song of the country. "It's anti-black people", Ms. Huffman told CBS13 Sacramento.

Marc Clague, musicologist of the University of MI and board chairman of the Star Spangled Music Foundation, has argued that the song is not racist. "Protesting our flag and national anthem sows division and disrespects the diverse Americans who have proudly fought and died for our country".

She drafted the NAACP's resolutions this fall after President Donald Trump suggested National Football League owners should fire any "son of a bitch" who doesn't stand for the anthem. Francis Scott Key, who wrote the lyrics of "The Star-Spangled Banner", was a slave owner and fierce opponent of abolition who may have sparked the first race riot in Washington, D.C.

That's not far from the heat produced under Yellowstone National Park, which is measured at about 200 milliwatts per square meter. NASA has also explained that this heating source is neither the new one nor is a threat for ice sheets in the Western Antarctica.

The California NAACP is seeking a representative to sponsor the legislation in Congress.

"This song is wrong. He blew it out of proportion", Huffman said.
