Charlotte air traffic controller charged with possession of weapon of mass destruction

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Department, Paul Dandan, who worked as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration, was arrested on multiple charges, including possession of a weapon of mass destruction and acquiring a weapon of mass destruction.

Dandan had some kind of explosive, which was not at the airport, sources say.

Dandan is facing charges of possession of a weapon of mass destruction and two counts of weapons offenses. Police and bomb squad members reported to the home on November 3 after a 911 call and found the device.

In a statement, the Charlotte Douglas International Airport said Dandan did not have access to any aircraft.

Fells changed his mind and gave it away to Paul George Dandon, 30, who was a full-time employee of the Federal Aviation Administration working out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Materials to make a pipe bomb-like device were found at Dandan's residence, a source says. The Observer report says that officials do not think that Dandan will face federal charges.

Dandan's roommate was arrested for having bomb-making materials, which were not at the airport, the station reported.

Fells was charged with three counts of manufacturing a weapon of mass destruction and one count of possession of a weapon of mass destruction, police said.

Law enforcement sources confirmed that the FBI is involved in the investigation.
