Directors discuss Thanos and new characters in Avengers: Infinity War


In an interview with CNET, the Russo Brothers confirmed that Infinity War will follow the beats of a heist film.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been teasing Thanos' quest for the Infinity Stones, and it seems like it's going to be interesting watching the Mad Titan go after the gems in Infinity War. The event will revolve around heroes from all corners of the Marvel universe coming together to figure out how and why the Earth was stolen. There's a few in [The Avengers: Infinity War trailer], and he's always pining to get another one in there.

The Russos said: "With Infinity War, the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he's entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he's nearly one of the leads". There are more surprises packed into this film than any of the others. "We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, [and] that brought some inspiration".

Of course, his arrival as a team member in the reinvented Guardians of the Galaxy would finally give him a popular comic platform, leading to expectations-shattering success as the roguish partner in crime of Vin Diesel's (also formerly-obscure, ) one-sentence-spouting living tree, Groot, in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy movie and its 2017 sequel.
