Fernando Alonso to start season best sixth in F1 Brazilian Grand Prix

SAO PAULO (AP) - Felipe Massa said his second and final goodbye to home fans in the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday with a seventh-place finish that the Williams driver insisted "was just like a victory".

During that spell, one of the most memorable moments of the season occurred, as the voice of Massa's young son Felipinho delivered a tear-jerking message to his father: "Daddy, I'm so proud of you".

"I took it easy in the beginning and I was still catching up the guys at the front but I felt I took care of my tyres and once I pushed I could get close but you can't really do anything. I love you! By the way, I loved your start!"

"I knew that after a year ago I had so much love and emotion from the people, but I didn't finish the race as I wanted. I will never forget today", the Brazilian said after being invited to the podium in a crowded Interlagos track in Sao Paulo.

"It's so hard to explain my feelings today", he added. The thrill I felt today was vast, just like a year ago.

"Last year I had such wonderful emotion, walking through the pit lane, but I was missing the result". It's so awesome to finish the race and see the emotion of the people after such an incredible race. I then managed to overtake a few cars after the Safety Car, managed to overtake Alonso which was very important for me because I knew he would have better pace than me. I knew that keeping him behind for 71 laps would be very hard, but I managed to do it.
