GTA V becomes best-selling game of all time in the US

So, what game did GTA V steal the mantle of highest-selling ever from (with a wallop upside the head with a golf club before it stole the anthropomorphic game's car)? Nintendo's title sold 82.8 million units, though it did have the advantage of being bundled in with the Wii console. Well, Grand Theft Auto V, the latest entry, is now the best-selling game of all time in the United States. "According to The NPD Group, Grand Theft Auto V is now the all-time best-selling video game, both in revenues and units, based on combined USA digital and physical sales across PC, console and portable". Recurrent consumer spending, which covers virtual currency, add-on content, and microtransactions, grew 66% year-over-year and accounted for 48% of total net revenue.

This means that GTA V has officially overtaken Wii Sports in sales, taking the title of "Best Selling Game of All Time" from the motion-based game (in terms of revenue, digital sales and physical sales in the US).

GTA Online remains so popular that it allowed Grand Theft Auto V sales to increase by another 5 million copies in just six months, as the sales figure for the game stood at 80 million in May.

The incredible sales numbers are due in no small part to GTA Online, the feature that draws most players in every day to take part in missions, races, crimes, basically anything that the sprawling city environment has to offer. The game, originally released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, has also been rolled out to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
