Senator Lambie had promised to resign if she found she held United Kingdom citizenship, amid mounting pressure in the Senate on Monday.

Lambie has confirmed she inherited British citizenship from her Scottish-born father and it was "quite clear" she was ineligible to remain in parliament, she said in a radio interview. However she is awaiting confirmation from British Authorities.

Unlike other dual citizens who have failed their constitutional requirements under Section 44 of the Constitution, Senator Lambie may not be replaced by those beneath her on her 2016 election ticket.
