Old Sacramento kicks off holiday season with Christmas tree lighting


It's all things Christmas this weekend in Lancaster County.

December 2 El Dorado Hills Town Center will teem with activities and the sounds of carolers during the city's 11th annual Christmas tree lighting. The Salem Youth Council will be serving hot chocolate and doughnuts.

The event will be held 5-9 p.m. November 24 around Penn Square, King and Queen streets. Those attending are asked to bring one food item for the local food pantry. Palladio: 5-6 p.m. 410 Palladio Pkwy.

Special guests from the Meridian High School Lamplighters, Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church Children's Choir, and Mississippi's Outstanding Teen, Holly Brand.

SMCC serves up Thanksgiving dinner
On the menu this for this year's meal is turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, beans, dinner rolls and deserts. Alexander Temple Church of God in Christ located at 3726 5th Avenue North will give out 100 Thanksgiving meals tomorrow morning.

Downtown stores will hold open houses, store windows will be decorated, Santa will be on hand for photos and even the Grinch will drop in for this event sponsored by the Downtown Ellijay Business and Community Association.

Saratoga Springs will host its ninth annual Christmas Tree Lighting, celebrated with an appearance by Santa and fireworks.

Santa's Workshop opens in the Hamburg Village Plaza at 5:30 p.m. December 1, when there also will be trolley rides and the lighting of the star on the village water tower at 7 p.m.

Alpine will turn on the city's lights in a ceremony in Legacy Park.

There will be food trucks on-site each day and holiday music will play to amp up the Christmas spirit. The 20-foot-tall Christmas tree at the heart of the ice rink will be set aglow at 7:30 p.m. Free.
