One last gift granted, Christmas comes early for ME boy fighting cancer

Jacob Thompson, a terminally ill boy whose request went viral for homemade Christmas cards to celebrate what would be his last Christmas early, died Sunday after receiving thousands of cards from around the world.

Jacob Thompson's family announced on social media that he died Sunday at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Neuroblastoma is a rare type of cancer that generally affects children ages five or younger.

In October this year, he was told he only had a month to live.

Since then tens of thousands of cards have flown into Jacob's small hospital room from, not only, all over ME but all over the world. People world-wide answered his small, quiet call for holiday cards, and they did so in a big way. People were touched by the story.

50 killed in Nigeria mosque bomb attack
The attack early Tuesday was the first in the town since it was recaptured from Boko Haram three years ago. The extremists' offensive has also spilled over into neighboring Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

He loved Christmas and asked for cards. Jacob chose Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve/Sarajevo. I'm counting on you guys!

"He has brought a lot of positive to other people and reminded them that this is the time for giving and sharing" said Michelle Simard, Jacob's mom.

He had some big name admirers, as well, similar to Arnold Schwarzenegger, who made him a card, and individuals from the University of ME hockey group and different neighborhood law implementation associations, who went by him in the healing center.

After learning that Jacob loved penguins, the Mystic Aquarium in CT brought the tuxedo birds to ME to meet their young fan.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar added, "The whole shooting of Greece song was one big party because this was the last schedule". Tiger Zinda Hai brings the two together after five years to recreate the same magic with some extra swag this time.

On November 9th, members of the law enforcement community from across New England caravanned to ME to visit Jacob.

Since November 1, Jacob has not only had cards flying in from celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rob Lowe and fellow Mainer, Anna Kendrick, but he has also had a parade of police officers from all over New England travel to meet him, and real live penguins waddle their way to his bedside. "It resonated pretty deep with a lot of agencies and departments". "You brought Jacob joy, and you brought us all optimism for the future", the family wrote. "He really moved me", he said. Radio station 94.9 WHOM kicked off its season of holiday music early to coincide with Jacob's Christmas celebration and allowed him to chose the first song played.

"It's what's it's all about".

"Thank you for the love and support!"
