A man facing trial for cheating was shot dead in a court complex here on Monday, police said. The accused, one Abdul Khan, was arrested from the spot.
The accused posed as a litigant, the police said. Hours after the murder, lawyers sought to blame police, saying that "laxity" in frisking and checking people at entry and exit gates was to blame. Monday's incident took place around 11.20 am, when the deceased, Vinod alias Balle, a resident of Mangol Pur, was being taken back after his appearance in the court by the Delhi Police's 3rd Battalion Armed Police.

Vinod, 31, was shot dead while being taken back to the Tihar Jail. The businessman had then lodged a case against Vinod in Rohini (South) police station.
A 27-year-old Rakesh Mehra, an advocate, told The Statesman, "After shooting, the accused surrendered before police". "We are looking into all aspects regarding security of the court". DCP (Rohini district) Rishipal Singh said the deceased has been identified as Vinod, a resident of Mangolpuri, while the attacker has been identified as Abdul Khan, a resident of Nangloi.
