As noted by Spanish Apple news site Applesfera, Apple seems to be prepping the App Store for the launch of Amazon Prime Video for Apple TV.

It has now though. The tvOS version is available to download on Apple TV 3rd generation devices or later, the Verge reports. You'll have to search for it in the App Store because it's so new that it's not yet featured anywhere.

For the uninitiated, Amazon Prime Video is a video streaming service similar to Netflix and Hotstar. Many industry watchers had speculated privately for some time that its debut would come just before the season two release of the services motoring TV series, The Grand Tour, which begins on December 8th, one of the highest profile shows in the Amazon Prime Video lineup.

So far, the app has appeared in Apple TV search in the United States and Canada, but not the UK, according to my Engadget colleagues there. It's also important to note that the app comes with support for Apple TV's Universal Search feature, so the TV shows and movies that users searched for will show up on the Apple TV interface. According to research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, 63 percent of Amazon's customers are Prime members, and in the past 12 months, the total subscriber base has grown by 38 percent.

Either way, this means that we'll likely see the Amazon Prime Video app launch for Apple TV sometime this week, with tomorrow being the earliest.

For Apple, it will help to more easily sell its set-top box to the 90 million US -based Amazon Prime subscribers. Once you've installed it on your Apple TV, you can browse without logging in, but unsurprisingly, to watch anything, you'll need to sign in to your Amazon account. "And they're going to return it".
