Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has hit back at his Manchester United counterpart Jose Mourinho, that he falsely claimed Alexandre Lacazette would not play against the Red Devils last weekend.

"It's the truth, eh?"

'The truth is Eric Bailly no chance for the weekend, Phil Jones a chance, [Marouane] Fellaini a chance, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] a big chance, Matic is injured but will play for sure, I'm telling the truth but he will play for sure, [Michael] Carrick no chance, ' the Portuguese said.

'In the end he could play.

"I believe from the game, it has to make us angry and even more determined", added Wenger, whose side dominated possession and produced a succession of chances but were thwarted by United goalkeeper David De Gea.

"I am here to fight as long as I can, as long as mathematically it's possible you have to fight, you cannot give any other message out".

"Next week we go into a week with three games and so some players need competition, some experienced players".

Even though progression into the last 32 has been assured, the Frenchman still intends to play those on the fringes of the first-team, rather than blood a team of youngsters in what is all-but a dead rubber for the hosts.

When Wenger was quizzed on his comments, he fired back at Mourinho and asked whether he expected him to "leave him [Lacazette] at home".
