Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was named the 2017 Davey O'Brien Award victor Thursday night during ESPN's college football awards show.

Mayfield easily outpointed Stanford running back Bryce Love, who came in second.

Although the Heisman Trophy victor won't be announced until Saturday, it will likely be a formality as Mayfield has dominated just about every aspect of the game this season. Mayfield leads the nation in passer efficiency rating and has thrown for 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns.

He beat out JT Barrett from Ohio State and Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph for the Davey O'Brien Award and the Walter Camp Award is given to the AP's player of the year. Jason White won in back-to-back years in 2003 and 2004, while Sam Bradford earned the title in 2008. I have to give a lot of the credit to my teammates and coaches, they are the reason that I am in position to win this award and I could not have done it without them.

Mayfield played high school football in Austin, Texas, but did not receive a scholarship offer from the Longhorns. "The Hornung Award is not only honoring the most versatile player in college football, but is also recognizing one of the best people in college football". He's also rushed for 310 yards and five touchdowns.

Mayfield is the third Oklahoma quarterback to claim the Davey O'Brien Award.
