Ben Stokes named in England ODI squad for Australia series

Ben Stokes has been included in England's one day worldwide squad for the series that follows the Ashes tests in Australia, but the cricket allrounder is still sweating on a decision from prosecutors.

Alex Hales, who was stood down by England's board after being with Stokes during the incident in Bristol, will not face charges and has also been included in the ODI squad.

Stokes, who has been suspended from global cricket following his brawl at a Bristol bar, was dismissed for a 41-ball 34 and remained wicketless in his spell of 7-0-39-0.

"We've got to take a decision but I think the best way is to go with the two guys who have taken over".

However, Stokes returned to competitive cricket last Sunday after New Zealand's domestic side Canterbury signed the all-rounder as their overseas player. If it happens, let's just get on with it and take it on the chin.

England ODI squad: Eoin Morgan (captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jake Ball, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.

The England v Australia ODI series consists of five matches with the first at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on January 14. In his first limited-overs match for his birth province against Otago, he was bowled for two.

Avon and Somerset police have completed their investigation and have now handed the files over to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether or not charges should be laid. "Still waiting for the police report", coach Trevor Bayliss said, highlighting the huge uncertainty over the star's availability.

A media release from the governing body read: "Should the European Central Bank board receive formal confirmation that Ben Stokes has either been charged or that he will face no charges, they would convene within 48 hours to make a decision on his availability for the team at that stage".

The news has come as a big relief for the English cricket fans.

The five-match Ashes series continues in Perth from December 14.

Hales, an opener who has not played any professional cricket since the September nightclub incident, learned this week that he would face no criminal charges, opening the door for his trip to Australia.
