Delta Air Lines ("Delta") and Airbus Group today announced the selection of Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan™ (GTF) engine to power Delta's order of A321neo aircraft.
The order is worth an estimated $12.7 billion based on the aircraft catalogue price, and deliveries will begin in 2020.
"This is the right transaction at the right time for our customers, our employees and our shareholders", said Delta CEO Ed Bastian.
The A321neo aircraft features 197 seats, with 147 of these in the main cabin; satellite WiFi; inflight entertainment features, including video streaming; and a 25% larger overhead storage facility.

After the credits have finished, the words, "In loving memory of our princess, Carrie Fisher ", appear on the screen. That lengthy running time has been the focus of some critics, but local fans says the more Star Wars , the better.
The result of the contest with Boeing's 737 MAX had been keenly awaited, following Boeing's complaint about unfair pricing of the Bombardier C Series after the Canadian aircraft had been selected by Delta.
The shares climbed 2.8 percent to $55.53 at 11:22 a.m.in NY, the most on a Standard & Poor's index of five major USA airlines.
Delta has also named Pratt & Whitney to be the major fix, maintenance, repair and overhaul provider for the engines that power both its A321neo and CSeries aircraft.
European industry officials hailed the jet order as an endorsement of Airbus's presence in the United States, where it opened an assembly plant in Mobile, Alabama, in 2015, in the hopes of further penetrating the US market.

Elsewhere, the patent shows how you could completely fold back the hinges to make the device serve as an alarm clock display. However, Windows Central notes that the foldable devices would run on a version of Windows 10 - code-named Andromeda OS.
CNN and Reuters reported yesterday that Airbus had beaten out rival Boeing Co (BA.N) for the order, boosting Airbus' leading share of the market for narrowbody models, while highlighting the increasingly fraught relationship between Delta and Chicago-based Boeing.
Delta's last major Boeing order was for 100 737-900ER jets in 2011, although it has placed add-on orders for more 737s since then. Delta has ordered a total of 117 A321ceos, each powered by CFM56 engines from CFM International. "We look forward to seeing the A321neo ACF flying in Delta colours soon".
