Kroger recalls purified drinking water for infants because of mold

Purified water sold at Kroger stores across the country, including IN, are also being recalled over mold concerns. However, The Kroger Company has done testing and identified the mold as Talaromyces penicillium.

The FDA also said infants who have HIV or other immune compromising conditions may be at risk.

There's a warning for parents who shop at Kroger.

The affected drinks are jugs with sell-by dates between April 26, 2018, and October 10, 2018, which are sold at various chains owned by the Cincinnati-based Kroger Co.

The water is sold in clear gallon containers, but the mold may not be visible to the naked eye.

According to the FDA, touching the mold or mold spores may cause an allergic reaction in some people.

Kroger store brands include Food 4 Less, Jay C, Jay C Food Plus, Kroger, Kroger Marketplace, Owen's, Payless Super Market, and Ruler outlets. The affected bottles have sell-by dates of 4/26/2018 to 10/10/2018 and UPC code 0 41260 37597 2. For people with asthma who are allergic to mold, it could trigger an asthma attack. And infants with HIV or other immune system deficiencies could become infected, leading to "serious health consequences", the FDA warned. Consult your health care professional if you believe your infant may be affected.

Kroger has pulled the product from its shelves.

If you bought this product, do not use it, return it to the store for a refund.
