But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones started working to sabotage the process in August, citing concerns over the league's long-term direction and the talks themselves.

The six members of the National Football League compensation committee, which had been granted permission to negotiate the extension, said it supported the signed contract in a letter to National Football League owners.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL's Compensation Committee has informed all owners that a new contract for Commissioner Roger Goodell has been executed. ". We are pleased to report that there is a almost unanimous consensus among the ownership in favor of signing the contract extension now".

The Washington Post's Mark Maske later reported that Goodell's extension is for five years and up to $40 million per season, with about 90 percent tied to incentives. The owners voted unanimously in May to authorize Blank to present the deal.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank headed the six-owner compensation committee that presented the deal on behalf of the 32 owners. With Jones under the impression that the deal wouldn't be done before then, there's a good chance the other 31 owners could be dealing with an irate Jones by the time that meeting rolls around.
