Rep. Blake Farenthold Won't Run in '18 Under Pressure from Harassment Settlement

Texas congressman Blake Farenthold, who in the past several weeks has been accused of sexual harassment and overseeing a hostile workplace, will not seek reelection next year.

In a video statement posted on the Elect Blake Farenthold Facebook page, he said he was "profoundly sorry" for allowing "the personal stress of the job to manifest itself in angry outbursts and, too often, a failure to treat people with the respect that they deserved". But what happens afterward is murky: The office appears to serve House members and their offices - not necessarily the employees - and makes no public accounting of its determinations or its expenditures.

"In short, the State can not constitutionally force any political party to be represented on the primary election ballot by a candidate with whom it does not wish to associate", the lawsuit said. "An unprofessional work environment is not a crime, but it's embarrassing to me and to my family".

Froome came third in Bergen, winning a bronze medal that he said at the time "capped an wonderful season". Martin finished a disappointing ninth.

Conyers also resigned at the urging of his Democratic colleagues after it was revealed he reached a $27,000 settlement with a female staffer who said she was sacked because she resisted the congressman's sexual advances.

CNN, Thursday, added a male staffer who claims Farenthold's jokes and insults caused him to "seek medical treatment and psychological counseling, and at one point, caused him to vomit daily".

Last week the House Ethics Committee took new steps to examine previous allegations against Farenthold, voting to establish an investigative subcommittee to actively review claims that he sexually harassed a former aide and retaliated against her when she filed a complaint against him.

Isaac was the obvious, intelligent choice here, so I'm delighted to read this news. This is a fan-caster's dream come (almost) true.

Mr Farenthold - a former conservative radio host and married father-of-two - denies any wrongdoing. ABC News has not confirmed his specific allegations.

Farenthold was already under investigation by the House ethics committee after it was revealed earlier this month that he used taxpayers' money in 2014 to settle a sexual harassment claim brought by his former spokeswoman.

Last week, Arizona Representative Trent Franks resigned after it was alleged he discussed surrogacy issues with female staffers.

It took the sheriff's deputies more than an hour to wrangle the dogs, which were said to weigh about as much as Stephens did. A woman who says she was best friends with the victim says the dogs she knew would never turn on her friend.

Technically, Farenthold still isn't resigning. His name could be removed from the ballot if there is a challenge to the candidate application before the mail-in ballots go out.
