"We are confident there are no shooters at the school or on the school grounds", sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said about 3:45 p.m.

Troyer also clarified that it appears the shooting happened across the street from the school, about 30 to 40 yards away and over a fence.

Deputies said the shooting occurred just off school grounds, and the victims ran back onto campus.

Two students were shot outside a Washington state high school on Tuesday and Pierce County sheriff's deputies said they're looking for suspects. One student was found in a locker room and another student was found in a parking lot by the football field. Both were transported to Tacoma General Hospital.

The suspects reportedly fled in a green vehicle, perhaps a Chevrolet Impala, sheriff's officials told the Seattle Times. They say the shooting may be gang-related. "That's something we have teams of people working now", Troyer said.

Troyer said they believe the two victims were students of the high school, but the shooters were not.
