Threat of rain increases as cold front approaches


Showers and thunderstorms are developing across portions of central Louisiana as of 5:00 a.m. and will continue to move closer to Southwest Louisiana through the morning as a cold front approaches from the north. This evening the front will slide south through the area and tonight will be windy and cold. Friday will be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 40s. Rain chances will increase from north to south across the area through Tuesday morning.

As of this morning, that is still the case. Factor in a gusty westerly breeze at 10 to 20 miles-per-hour that will add an additional chill and you'll feel the first signs of the impending colder weather pattern that is ours to keep for the foreseeable future.

Saturday: A few rain or snow showers possible.

The first part of Tuesday will be dry and temperatures will slowly rise through the 40s, ending at sunset.

But all of those features depend on there being a constant source of power - and airlines are starting to worry about the safety risk that poses.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches look possible between now and Thursday morning. Then the temperature will drop like a rock into the lower 30s by the overnight and mid 50s during the day, which is almost a 20 degree difference from the beginning of the week. So there's a chance of some rain and snow in the Tuesday forecast to account for this possibility, although remember no major storms are in sight.

Sunday will otherwise be a pleasant day with partly sunny skies and highs in the middle to perhaps upper 40s.

Cloudy and chilly with a 50% chance for scattered showers. The high temperature will climb to well above average, into the low 60s.
