Trump, congressional leaders plan White House budget meeting

Republicans will need the support of Democrats to get the bill through the Senate and potentially the House, where conservatives are anxious that an end-of-the-year bill will get loaded down with Democratic priorities.

Mitchell McConnellTop GOP senators say they have the votes to pass tax bill Angus King on GOP tax push: "To call this a circus would be an insult to circuses" McConnell works to salvage tax bill MORE (R-Ky.) is backing the passage of a short-term stopgap bill aimed at preventing a government shutdown ahead of Friday's deadline.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said during a weekly briefing with reporters that Republicans expect to vote this week on a measure to extend the CR from December 8 to December 22 to "give us a little room to talk" about a bipartisan deal to raise defense and non-defense spending above caps mandated by the 2011 Budget Control Act.

"We hope the president will go into this meeting with an open mind, rather than deciding that an agreement can't be reached beforehand", the Democrats said Monday in a written statement.

What is the Invisible Box Challenge... and how to do it?
Other recent popular challenges include the " Ice Bucket Challenge ", " Planking Challenge" and the "Cinnamon Challenge". We all know social media is a breeding ground for wild challenges, but this latest one is a head-scratcher.

While Trump's tweet was meant to antagonize, Schumer and Pelosi were condemned for their last minute decision by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Democrats have yet to say if they support passing a two-week continuing resolution. And in what seemed an attempt to isolate the president, they said they hoped he'd be amenable to an agreement "as negotiations with our Republican counterparts continue".

Because a two-year budget deal is expiring, the defense spending cap is due to drop in 2018 to $549 billion from this year's $551 billion, while non-defense spending is to fall to $516 billion from $519 billion.

"We have to provide funding for community health centres and (the Children´s Health Insurance Program), as well as relief for the millions of Americans still reeling from natural disasters", they added.

In the Italian capital, Roma edged eliminated Qarabag thanks to Diego Perotti nodding in a rebound from Edin Dzeko's shot. Stefan Savic put into his own net from an Eden Hazard cross to level the scores and send them into the Europa League.

Democrats and some Republicans are also demanding a plan to protect immigrants who arrived illegally in the children.

Getting an immigration deal enacted in December would cause an eruption in House GOP ranks, where many conservatives oppose the idea.

White House spokesman Raj Shah and a spokesman for McConnell confirmed Thursday's meeting.

McConnell said Sunday that a CHIP extension and disaster aid would be addressed in a spending bill before December 22, but not immigration. Both chambers' bills give the bulk of their tax breaks to businesses and wealthier people and are headlined with a cut of the 35 percent corporate tax to 20 percent.
