McKayla and Erin Maroney sent in the eye-opening letters for the judge to read in private, instead of McKayla making her planned appearance in the Grand Rapids, Michigan courtroom to testify against Nassar, the former US gymnastics doctor she says abused her under the guise of medical treatment for six years.
McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas - three members of the U.S. gymnastics team that won gold at the 2012 London Olympics - are among those who've come forward with allegations of sexual abuse by Nassar. MI authorities arrested him last November, and in December, federal authorities added child pornography charges.
More than 140 women have filed lawsuits against Nassar, USA Gymnastics, Michigan State and high-ranking officials from both institutions.
Maroney will be in attendance at Larry Nassar's sentencing on Thursday in MI. "As it turns out, much to my demise, Dr. Nassar was not a doctor, he in fact is, was, and forever shall be, a child molester, and a monster of a human being". The sentence, handed down by a judge in Grand Rapids, Mich., ensures that Nassar, 54, likely will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Critical fire weather continues throughout Southern California; worst conditions yet to come
The Thomas Fire spanned 65,000 acres (about 101 square miles) in Ventura County, which sits just north and west of Los Angeles . California's top firefighter says the state is in for the worst Santa Ana wind conditions it's ever seen.
Maroney's victim-impact statement will not be read in open court, but the letters written by her and her mother, Erin Maroney, were procured by ESPN's "Outside the Lines".
Federal prosecutors, however, had argued for the maximum 60 years, saying Nassar "poses an vast risk to the community" and quoting one victim who said the 54-year-old "will not hesitate to reoffend" if he's ever freed.
"He abused my trust, abused my body and left scars on my psyche that may never heal", McKayla Maroney said in her letter.
Maroney's parents are still haunted by the times McKayla was supposed to be under the protection of USA Gymnastics and her coaches, and yet was left unsupervised, giving Nassar easy access to perform his pseudo-treatments on her. She was only 15 years old. Newburg added he believed Nassar was remorseful.
Aiyar's 'neech' remark reeks of feudal arrogance, says BJP
As Aiyar's remarks that Modi was a " neech aadmi " (low man) in the context of his criticism of the Congress vis-a-vis B.R. Prime Minister Modi had said the Nehru-Gandhi family did the greatest injustice to Babasaheb Ambedkar and Sardar Patel.
His public downfall began in September 2016, when the Indianapolis Star named Nassar in a report on USA Gymastics' lackluster response to allegations of assault.
The child pornography was discovered past year when Nassar was being investigated for assault.
The drives included images and videos of young girls mostly under the age of 12, including some as young as 6. The letters detail the lasting damage done to Maroney by Nassar. Toward the end of one clip, the agent testified, Nassar is seen allegedly grabbing a hand of one girl and shoving it into the crotch of another.
Some of the videos appeared to show Nassar assaulting young girls in a pool, investigators said. But if he somehow manages to serve out the entirety of his federal sentence, he'll still have to serve out his state prison sentence for the 10 counts of criminal sexual conduct he pleaded guilty to last month.
