Always-connected PCs debut at CES 2018

The updated HP ENVY x2 comes with major improvements.

"Every aspect of the PC experience is being reinvented, and HP is at the forefront". The OMEN PC acts as the host, connected to the internet, streamed to a second PC (also connected to the web.) This will likely prove similar to what we've seen in the past with Steam game streaming and NVIDIA GameStream. Like the HP Spectre, Envy x2 will use HP Fast Charge technology and is able to send a 90% charge to the device in 90 minutes. The 4K 15.6-inch monitor is intriguing, but that's something last year's model also offered.

In contrast to the Snapdragon version whose detachable keyboard can be simply attached in varying degrees of tilt to affix the most comfortable writing position, the keyboard of the Intel version sports a flat design, but only so that the screen can be conveniently positioned in laptop, reading or tablet mode, without having to remove the protective back cover.

The Intel x2 is for consumers unwilling to go down the ARM-Windows path. HP is offering the Envy x2 with the Y-Series version of Intel's 7th generation Core i CPUs. This is just the beginning, too - HP generally releases just a few products at CES, then sprinkles more throughout the year. The chassis is made from CNC aluminum, is a fanless design, and will use a Gorilla Glass 4 12.6-inch 1080p display. An integrated Intel XMM 7360 LTE-Advanced modem allows users to stay connected with 4G LTE speeds and downloads, according to the product website. The set sports a 65-inch 4k (2160x3840 pixels) diagonal display with HDR10 support, 120Hz refresh rate with ultra-low latency, and 1,000 nits peak luminance.
