Medipol Basaksehir confirmed on Saturday the signing of Turkish midfielder Arda Turan in a tweet from their official account.

Turan joined Barcelona in 2015 from Atletico Madrid for £24.2m but with the arrival of club-record signing Philippe Coutinho, the 30-year-old has made a decision to pursue first-team opportunities in Turkey.

He joined the club from Atletico Madrid for 34 million euros (£29 million) plus add-ons in July 2015, winning six trophies but only making 55 appearances and scoring 15 goals.

A Barcelona statement on Saturday read: 'During this period Barca reserve the right to transfer the player to a club belonging to UEFA, and will receive a variable fee according to his performances.

The Barca man's former club Galatasaray were heavily linked with a bid for their one-time captain, with Arsenal also having been persistently touted as a possible destination for the experienced attacking midfielder/winger.

Istanbul Basaksehir tops the Super Lig (Turkish League) standings after 17 games, and Turan should boost its prospects of winning the title.

However, it was West Ham who broke the deadlock just before the half hour after a mistake by Lolley from Lossl's short goal kick. The second half couldn't have started any worse for Huddersfield.

However, while the fact that Turan has departed the club may not come as much of a surprise, the format of the deal to take him away from Catalunya is something of a head-scratcher.

CONFIRMED that Arda Turan has joined Istanbul Basaksehir on a loan deal through to the end of the 2019-20 season.
