The visibility gradually improved as fog was less on Wednesday. Yesterday 40 domestic and 26 worldwide flights were delayed. "It has severely affected aviation, railway and surface transport and caused colder day temperatures in these areas", said a senior MeT official.

Delhi woke up to dense fog for the second consecutive day, resulting in operations being stalled at both the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and the railway stations. 13 trains were also rescheduled, officials said.

According to ANI, Delhi nearly certainly experienced its coldest day of this season today as the minimum temperature recorded in the Palam this morning is at 7 degree Celsius. Dense fog is expected on Thursday with temperatures expected between 20°Celsius and 6°Celsius. It, however, forecast that the fog would continue for some more days.

Concerns were raised about additional costs involved for airlines due to diversions and cancellations, in a meeting held to review standard operating procedures (SOPs) for flight operations during the fog.

Sinha also invited suggestions to improve the system performance.

The government had yesterday said that it is monitoring the situation and is trying to bring some improvement in the system after flight services went for a toss due to heavy fog in the last few days.
