Jones, who was originally contracted to the post until the culmination of the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, will now remain at the RFU at the helm of English rugby until 2021.

If as planned he works above his successor for a year, Jones insists he "will have the ultimate say, it can't be more black or white than that", and has ruled out extending his stewardship any further.

Jones has often spoken of looking forward to his retirement trips to the West Indies but that enticing prospect has been postponed after what he said was an easy decision.

Jones has been given an additional two years as reward for his success in overseeing a run of 22 wins from 23 Tests, a sequence that features consecutive NatWest 6
Nations titles including a Grand Slam.

The 57-year-old has made it clear that anything other than winning the next global gathering will be regarded as a failure, although the RFU's chief executive, Steve Brown, refused to go into details about what outcome in Japan next year would activate the break clause. Jones is due to name his squad for the tournament on Thursday.

Roads and schools closed as wintry showers sweep across Britain
The heaviest and most frequent showers would be in the north and west of the United Kingdom , which could see 2-5cm of snow. The Met Office's chief forecaster predicts: "Snow showers will be heaviest and most frequent across western Scotland ".

"Coaching England is a dream job for me, and I was delighted to be asked to stay on after Rugby World Cup 2019", he added.

"Our first priority is to win the World Cup and then after that it is making sure the guy that is going to take over has a good team to be involved in, a good structure and hopefully I can play a role in making sure that happens".

"I have been completely focused on developing a team", the coach highlighted.

"I'd love to be in Barbados in 2021, I'll get there eventually, watching an England team being coached by a super team of coaches and playing better rugby than they've ever played".

"I'm not arrogant or presumptuous enough to think I would be offered the Lions role", he said.

The RFU have also outlined their plan to find Jones' successor, revealing they plan to appoint the new coach by the end of the 2019/20 season.

"What we've tended to do is to have a kind of disruptive reset of our coaching teams in every four-year cycle as we get to a World Cup", added Brown.

'Under Eddie's leadership, we have risen from eighth to second in the world - and Eddie won't be satisfied until we are number one.
