HP CM announces cash award of Rs 5 lakh for Anchal Thakur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter, "Well done @alleaanchal for winning an worldwide medal in skiing! In an exclusive chat with NDTV, Aanchal said", I want to thank PM Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore Ji.

Thakur won the medal in the slalom race category, which involves skiing between poles and gates spaced more closely than giants slalom or super giant slalom.

Skiing runs in her blood but it has not been an easy ride thus far for the the 21-year-old, who is a student of DAV College in Chandigarh. The 21-year-old won bronze at Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup in the slalom race category which was organised by Skiing's worldwide governing body, global Ski Federation at the Palandoken Ski Centre, in Erzurum in Turkey. I thought it was some kind of a souvenir given at the end of every FIS event! Aanchal scripted history by clinching the bronze medal in the Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup at the Palandoken Ski Centre in Erzurum in Turkey. My best wishes are with her for her future endeavours.

On her historic achievement, Aanchal's father Roshan Thakur who is the General Secretary of Winter Games Federation of India (WGFI), was elated.

"I have been skiing in Europe since I was in seventh grade".

He was also optimistic about receiving financial help from the government. Thakur trained for months and her hard work finally bore fruit in a very delightful manner.
