Chesler, of U.S. District Court in New Jersey, wrote in a January 5 opinion that Baljinder Singh, also known as Davinder Singh, illegally obtained his naturalization and ordered Singh's certificate of naturalization cancelled and his citizenship revoked.
A man of Indian origin has become the first person to lose USA citizenship as part of a stepped-up government crackdown on foreign nationals who have illegally obtained naturalization.
Singh's attorney could not be immediately reached.
Singh is the first person de-naturalized under Operation Janus, an initiative by the Department of Homeland Security to weed out naturalized citizens who circumvented fingerprint and other background checks during the naturalization process.
According to the petition filed by the Department of Justice in September 2017, Singh had concealed prior orders of exclusion and his deportation that were passed against him, and assumed a different identity that was used for naturalization in his citizenship application.

"The Justice Department will continue to use every tool to protect the integrity of our nation's immigration system, including the use of civil denaturalization", Readler added.
The government filed the complaint against Singh last September, along with two other cases against Pakistan-born naturalized citizens in CT and Florida. All three cases were part of Operation Janus.
The U.S. immigration agency plans to refer about 1,600 additional cases under Operation Janus for possible denaturalization.

Reportedly, the first Indian to face such an action, the authorities believe that the former Indian citizen Baljinder Singh alias Davinder Singh entered United States by marrying a USA citizen and then later, acquired American citizenship through fraudulent means.
Singh is accused of illegal procurement of naturalization by not being lawfully admitted for permanent residence, illegal procurement of naturalization due to lack of good moral characters, and procurement of USA citizenship with concealment of a material fact or willful misrepresentation, it said (see India-West article here). He has been living in Carteret, New Jersey.
Singh has been now reverted to a green card status, which could potentially mean he might face deportation in the near future, as per reports.
