Panthers LB Thomas Davis Says 2018 Will Be His Last Year

While the Panthers didn't make an official announcement, the team posted a picture of Davis on its Twitter page with the word "Respect".

The 2018 National Football League season will be the last for Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis.

Davis, 34, was Carolina's first-round draft pick in 2005 and has spent his entire career with the Panthers.

Davis cited the desire to spend more time with his kids after fulfilling his contract with the Panthers, which runs through 2018 after an extra year was tacked on to the deal in August. I signed on for a one-year extension, and I want to complete that.

He tore his ACL three different times, and he became the first professional athlete to return and play after three ACL tears.

Davis was the 2014 Walter Payton Man of the Year for his work with the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation.

Davis played in and started 15 games this season, only missing Carolina's December 24 game against Tampa Bay while serving a suspension for an illegal hit in the previous week's game.

"I'm pretty sure coming back next year it'll be in a reduced role", Davis told Cersosimo.

Davis was suspended for one game late in the season for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams.
