Qualcomm brings Smart Speaker Platform which also supports Cortana

Microsoft envisages Cortana being built into all manner of devices, including phones, Xbox, mixed reality headsets, computers, intelligent smart speakers and more.

Qualcomm announced that its Qualcomm Smart Audio Platform now supports Microsoft Cortana. The platform integrates the hardware and software required to help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) launch audio devices such as smart speakers. The chipset maker will enter into the smart speaker market along with Microsoft.

Qualcomm Technologies announced radio frequency front-end (RFFE) design wins with OEMs such as Google, HTC, LG, Samsung and Sony Mobile.

Qualcomm also announced at CES that it's adding Cortana support to its Mesh Networking Platform and Reference Design for smart home devices. The goal of this new platform is to enable the rapid acceleration and creation of smart speakers in the industry, where manufacturers have to spend less time on design and the tech inside, while also being able to choose from Alexa, Google Assistant, or Cortana.

A senior executive from Qualcomm said that, taking the benefits of the capabilities and features of Cortana, manufacturers can deliver user experiences on a new platform.

With this announcement at the CES 2018, we can expect Qualcomm to enhance its support further for smart home devices and other IoT products.
