Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham: Let's end this "s-show" on immigration

On Monday, the Washington Post shed some light on how Senators Tom Cotton, of Arkansas, and David Perdue, of Georgia, felt able to assert that President Donald Trump had not referred to Africa as a collection of "shithole" countries-a comment that the White House itself did not, at first, bother to protest-and thus that those who said he did, including their fellow-senators, were liars.

After over two hours of testimony - and being asked about the issue repeatedly - Nielsen deflected questions from other Democrats on the matter, saying she had said all that should could about the matter.

On Sept. 5, 2017, Trump rescinded the DACA program, effective March 5, 2018. "And what I've heard reported is consistent about what I heard about the meeting". Of the 1.4 million immigrants from sub-Sahara Africa who are 25 and older, according to the Los Angeles Times, citing research from the Washington-based Migration Policy Institute, 41 percent have a bachelor's degree, compared with 30 percent of all immigrants and 32 percent of the US -born population - and 38 percent of the 19,000 USA immigrants from Norway.

Truth be told, I agree with him that African countries are "shithole" countries with shithole political systems. In his ruling, Alsup wrote there is "a plausible inference that racial animus towards Mexicans and Latinos was a motivating factor in the decision to end DACA".

It's clear they, like Nielsen, do this so they don't get crosswise with the volatile president - but in the process shred their own integrity. That was then; this is now, when minorities overwhelmingly vote for Democratic candidates because they perceive the GOP as indifferent or hostile.

The president's "shithole" words were uttered in a meeting called to save the Dreamers. Does it end without any effort to secure the border? No.

Trump sought "a bipartisan bill of love", pledging to sign any bill that came to his desk as long as it contained money for "the wall".

Durbin, and the other politicians, were trying to get Trump to back the deal.

It said Phoebe Crane, a 70-year-old white woman visiting from IN, waved a hot pink sign announcing: "Proud Grandparent of a Haitian!"

But some people hold a different view. Though this might enrage Washington, staffers predict the comment will resonate with his base, much like his attacks on NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem did not alienate it.

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks at the Conversation With the Women of America panel at the White House in Washington D.C., the United States, on January 16, 2018. The path to a deal seems even more complicated after last week's coarse Oval Office conversation, and Trump has accused Durbin of undermining the trust necessary to reach an agreement.

'I did not hear that word used, no sir, ' she responded.

Cotton initially said, in statement shortly after the meeting, that he "did not recall" Trump making any offensive comments. "I haven't heard any of those six sources other than Senator Durbin talk about what was said". Both are equally insulting. "Did President Trump use this word or a substantially similar word to describe certain countries?" "People on all sides feel very strongly about this issue, frankly, as well as they should".

Trump himself marked the day with a videotaped speech posted on Twitter that alluded to King's celebrated "I Have a Dream" speech.

Trump has denied using that word.

Haiti had sent 15,000 people. "As far as I know there's only one person who's spoken about this meeting under oath and she confirmed my account". Forty thousand had come from Nigeria, Mr. Trump added.

But it led some who had tried to give Trump the benefit of the doubt to a conclusion they had hoped to avoid: that the president of the United States is a racist. Trump has said he wants to extend it, but has also tweeted that Democrats aren't serious about getting a deal to extend it.

In the same interview, Trump also appeared to not understand what a metaphor was. It remains to be seen whether the appellate courts or Congress will ultimately save DACA.
