A bill was introduced in the US House of Representatives aimed at tightening the terms of the Iran nuclear deal, despite Tehran's rejection of changes to the accord.

Cheney further said a deal with Iran would need to "at a minimum, authorize anywhere, anytime inspections including inspections of military facilities; disclosure of all past and present, military and civilian nuclear activity; a ban on weapons-grade enrichment; and a restriction on ballistic missile development".

Since Trump's inauguration a year ago, the USA has also imposed many rounds of sanctions against legal and natural persons, associating them with Iran's conventional missile program.

Senior US administration officials said last week that Trump will work with European partners on a follow-on agreement that enshrines certain triggers that Iran can not exceed related to ballistic missiles.

Trump on Friday said he made a decision to extend sanctions waivers on Iran for the last time, threatening to withdraw from the pact unless US Congress and European allies can fix the alleged "disastrous flaws".

Tehran has ruled out any changes in the deal, while the other signatories - Britain, France, Germany, China, and Russian Federation - have closed ranks in support of the accord.

Later in the day, Guterres met with President Nazarbayev, and commended Kazakhstan on the agenda of its Presidency in the Security Council, as well as its constructive cooperation with the United Nations, including the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA). "We assume that the full liquidation of nuclear weapons is possible only within the context of comprehensive and full disarmament, in conditions when equal and indivisible security is ensured for all, including for those who possess nuclear weapons, as this is envisaged by the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons", he said.
