Scribblenauts Showdown brings the series back in March after four years away

Interactive Entertainment announced today.

Scribblenauts Showdown will release for Nintendo Switch on March 6th in North America, and March 9th in Europe.

The ESRB listing describes Scribblenauts Showdown as follows.

Three injured in Vancouver shooting at East Broadway and Ontario Street
Another person, a man in his 30s, inside a vehicle was grazed with a bullet and treated at the scene. Palmer said he was seriously injured in the shooting and died overnight.

Showdown will support up to four players in card-based minigames.

"Wordy" mini-games will challenge players to unleash their best object or character from almost 35,000 words in the Scribblenauts dictionary to outsmart their opponents. There's a Versus Mode which brings the action down to one or two players. Much of its charm was in concocting interesting puzzles and allowing the player freedom to get around them however they could think of.

If you're wondering whether or not the series is ditching the more traditional puzzle solving that made Scribblenauts famous, worry not. And then Sandbox mode will allow one or two players to solve objectives in eight new levels, where they must summon any object to earn Starites, uncover those that are hidden, and unlock achievements. Interactive Entertainment, says that "Scribblenauts Showdown delivers imaginative fun and the humor that Scribblenauts fans love with new social elements to challenge friends and family". Also, this talk of being a party game only makes it more appealing.

Players can also customize and design their own Scribblenaut, using its signature art style.

The Scribblenauts series is taking aim at the party game genre now. The series initially began on Nintendo DS in 2009, boasting an impressive creative writing-based puzzle system. This follows the game being rated in Taiwan, and both instances list PlayStation 4 amongst the title's platforms. Some games/tasks prompt players to use "cartoony" weapons (e.g., bazookas, bombs, swords) to deplete the health meters of other characters.
