"Donald Trump's so-called election integrity commission was a scam and a fraud from beginning to end", said Marge Baker, executive vice president of the progressive People for the American Way.

But the co-chairman of the panel, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, said the investigation into alleged voter fraud would continue - and could pick up speed without the formalities of a commission.

Trump has not yet indicated how he expects the Department of Homeland Security to handle his claims of voter fraud.

The commission demanded state voter registration information that Simon refused to turn over, saying it was illegal to provide some of the information, and voicing concern about how it might be used.
