Trump Says He Would Beat Oprah Winfrey if She Ran for President

There has been a huge clamour for Ms Winfrey to run as a Democrat candidate against Mr Trump for the White House in 2020 following her moving speech at the Golden Globes last weekend.

It's unclear whether Trump watched Winfrey's Sunday speech, but the White House, reacting to the latest Oprah boomlet, said Monday that the administration would relish such a match-up.

"So I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day - is - on - the - horizon", she said, slowing down her delivery for the last four words, her voice rising, her fist punching the air just the way politicians always do.

"Drop the [mic] Congrats @oprah on one the most lovely, powerful and transcendent speeches I've ever heard!" the minister captioned the photo.

In a veiled attack on Trump, she raised the issue of press freedom, saying the press is under "siege" these days.

Otherwise, as Winfrey herself might say, we might end up with a 2020 race that makes the 2016 Republican primaries look dignified by comparison: "You get a run at the White House!"

The notion of Oprah Winfrey running for president is the sort of thing that dramatically shakes up the American political world and stirs a reaction in just about everybody.
