On 26 December, Vijayan returned back to state capital Trivandrum in a helicopter after attending an organizational event of his Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPM in Thrissur district.

The decision in this regard was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The chief-minister, however, has denied this and said that the Opposition parties have been purposely making a case out of nothing. "But, I have decided not to use the SDRF. There was nothing wrong in it", Vijayan said.

"Such a thing has never happened in Kerala".

Less than a year after Vijayan became chief minister, the Kerala High Court discharged him in the Lavalin case giving him the much needed political and moral high ground to challenge the alleged corruption of his predecessor's government and also hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP government at the Centre.

In Kochi, Leader of the Opposition in the assembly Ramesh Chennitha said it was a "serious lapse" on the part of the government and a highly "condemnable act".

In a bid to end the controversy, the CPI-M Secretariat which meets here on Thursday is likely to foot the bill of Vijayan's helicopter ride.

State BJP President Kummanem Rajasekheran said denounced Vijayan. The LDF government also came in for criticism from the Latin Catholic Church, to which most of the cyclone affected fishermen belong, over the issue. The order was issued without the knowledge of the CM's office, it said.

The CM's office on Tuesday evening clarified that officials were not aware of the payment and the order was withdrawn, as soon as they learnt of the issue.

The helicopter was hired for Vijayan's "to and fro journey" from Thrissur to Thiruvananthapuram on December 26.

Revenue minister E Chandrasekharan has also asked for an explanation from additional chief secretary (revenue and disaster management) PH Kurien, over the issue.

Oil, Gas Prices Will Continue to Climb
Mazroui said that draining the oil glut needed time to bring global oil inventories down to the industry's five-year average. "The lower draw in crude oil stocks, combined with the strong builds in product stocks is bearish news for prices".
